Playing a musical instrument can preserve memory and hearing

If you want your brain to be “fit as a fiddle” as you age, playing a musical instrument can help. Over the years, scientific research has shown that studying music can improve school performance as well as helping to heal from emotional trauma. Scientists at the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory at Northwestern University have found that musicians suffer less age-related memory and hearing loss than non-musicians. We now have scientific evidence that lifelong musical experience has a beneficial impact on the aging process.
