Possible new problem with statins

Growing evidence indicates that the cholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins, are associated with over 300 adverse side effects, including weakening of the heart muscle, and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Recently published research (Diabetes Care, August 8, 2012) now indicates that statin drug use may cause accelerated calcifi-cation of the aorta and coronary arteries, both of which can contribute to premature death. This is very concerning given the fact that statins are supposed to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and not increase it!

If you are taking a statin drug such as Lipitor, under no circumstances should you suddenly stop taking the med-ication. Be sure to talk to your doctor about this.
