How We Help

Most drugs only treat the symptoms and not the underlying disease process itself. In other words, they don’t cure. Rather than focusing on symptoms, to create wellness, we first identify the metabolic dysfunction and nutritional imbalances that are the root cause of nearly all chronic diseases. We then individualize the treatment. By doing so, we move beyond the “one-size-fits-all” approach that is emphasized in the mainstream medical community.

Unlike many so-called “anti-aging” medical offices, we do not offer spa services or cosmetic procedures. Instead, we focus on healing your body on the inside using natural and powerful therapies that incorporate thorough bloodwork, hormone and neurotransmitter balancing, detoxification, diet and nutritional supplements, sleep restoration, exercise therapy, intravenous therapy, judicious use of medication, thermotherapy, and mitochondrial therapy

Our powerful, science-based approach combines the best of conventional and alternative medicine. Using some of the most advanced metabolic and nutritional therapies available, we can prevent, stop, or reverse many of the most challenging health issues of our time. Here is a description of our arsenal of clinical tools we use to build your body’s built-in defenses against disease and help you achieve and maintain optimum health:

BloodworkTHOROUGH BLOODWORK: Thorough analysis of your blood profile is the place to start to prevent disease and secure a long and healthy life. You don’t have to wait until you have an illness to get healthy. Your blood often reveals chemical changes in your body before symptoms of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer’s begin to surface. This vital information gives insight into your true state of health. With this information, corrective action can be taken before you are stricken with a life-threatening disease.

A key to avoiding life-threatening diseases relies not only on obtaining the correct blood tests but applying the correct interpretation as well. Many of the blood tests we obtain are rarely if ever, ordered by your primary-care physician, but are crucial for protecting your health and extending your life. Regarding interpretation, the question is not, what is a “normal” test result, but rather, what is an “optimal” test result? Optimal values should be used if you wish to enjoy optimal health.

HormonesHORMONE BALANCING: Hormones are powerful chemical messengers needed for growth and development, sexual function, metabolism, cardiovascular function, body composition, cellular repair, cognition, and overall well-being. Hormone production is impaired by environmental toxins, medication, stress, lack of sleep, inactivity, weight gain, and poor diet. Degenerative processes then set in, causing health to decline and aging to accelerate. Restoring hormonal integrity can be one of the most effective ways to revitalize your health and prevent disease.

Our state-of-the-art method is called Hormone Pellet Therapy. Tiny dissolvable hormone pellets are painlessly placed beneath the skin to deliver an even and steady level of hormones 24/7. They are designed to replace what your body can no longer produce. The pellets contain bioidentical hormones derived from natural plant sources that precisely match the molecular structure and function of human hormones. They provide protective benefits originally provided by the body and allow you to age more naturally and healthfully. In addition to pellets, we offer bioidentical hormones using subcutaneous microinjections for men and vaginal mini-suppositories for women.

NeurotransmittersNEUROTRANSMITTER BALANCING: Like hormones, neurotransmitters are powerful chemical messengers. They are used by the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves to relay information from one nerve cell to another and to facilitate communication amongst the body’s glands, organs, and muscles.

Optimal neurotransmitter levels are crucial for good mental and physical health. When they are out of balance, it can lead to anxiety, depression, anger/rage, fatigue, poor memory, lack of mental focus, loss of motivation, hyperactivity, insomnia, addictions and cravings, poor impulse control, chronic pain, elevated blood sugar, hypertension, low libido, and erectile dysfunction.

Hormones and neurotransmitters work together. Disruption in hormones can lead to neurotransmitter imbalance. Conversely, neurotransmitter imbalance can affect hormone function. Aging, genetics, environmental toxins, and poor diet can impact neurotransmitter production. A combination of natural amino acids, vitamins, and hormones are used to restore healthy neurotransmitter levels and improve your quality of life.

DetoxificationDETOXIFICATION: According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), most Americans are contaminated with heavy metals, along with a variety of toxic solvents, fire retardants, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, chemicals from plastics, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), as well as outlawed pesticides such as DDT. These various contaminants can cause cellular damage and predispose you to a variety of serious diseases. Reducing the toxic burden in the body can significantly improve our ability to prevent and reverse chronic degenerative diseases.

The organs involved in neutralizing and eliminating toxic chemicals and heavy metals include the liver, kidneys, lungs, intestines, and skin. The liver is the chief organ involved in detoxification. Liver detoxification consists of two enzyme-driven phases: Phase I and Phase II. Both phases must work properly for effective detoxification to occur. Our protocols are designed to promote the excretion of heavy metals and other contaminants from the body, and enable the liver to further cleanse the body of unwanted toxins.

DietDIET AND NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS:
One of the most powerful medicines of all is the food you eat. It has the power to renew your body, revitalize your health, and slow the aging process. Proper diet plays a pivotal role in determining your health and resistance to disease. The concept that you can eat your way to a healthier life goes back 2,500 years when the Greek physician Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

We teach what (and when) to eat to correct nutritional deficiencies, support optimal acid-alkaline balance, achieve proper hydration, promote gut health, strengthen the immune system, normalize hunger and satiety hormones, and reduce systemic inflammation, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress. We show how certain nutrients can be combined to promote youthful stem-cell production in the brain, blood, and other tissues. We also offer cooking classes and host monthly potlucks to help convey important food-preparation skills.

Note: A powerful dietary strategy is calorie restriction (food deprivation). It increases lifespan by decreasing inflammation, oxidative stress, and insulin resistance. In addition, it slows age-related deterioration and improves resistance to disease by increasing autophagy (the process by which aging cells are repaired) and apoptosis (the process by which aging cells that are beyond repair are removed and replaced with new cells). Studies have shown that calorie restriction can increase longevity, but few people are willing to endure the psychological stress of continuous hunger in order to stay young.

Our approach is different. By using targeted natural compounds, we can mimic many of the anti-aging effects of calorie restriction. We then add carbohydrate reduction, peptide administration, and nutrient partitioning. The resultant synergy leads to an increase in autophagy and apoptosis by optimizing important gene-signaling molecules such as activation of AMPk and SIRT1, and inhibition of mTOR. The net effect represents one of the most powerful strategies available to slow the effects of aging by stimulating cellular repair and rejuvenation.

SleepSLEEP RESTORATION: Adequate sleep is vital to good health and longevity. During sleep, energy is restored, tissues are repaired, immune chemicals and cells are activated, and important hormones are released. Sleep also resets the brain’s connections which are crucial for memory and learning. It is well-known that sleep problems can significantly diminish the quality of life, but it can also decrease your length of life. Nearly every major life-shortening disease, including cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s, is associated with chronic sleep deprivation. No other risk factor shows up more often.

Having normal and regular patterns of sleep are consistently found in people who enjoy the best health and the longest lives. Sleep is just as important—if not more important—as good nutrition and exercise. Even if your diet and level of fitness are perfect, without adequate sleep, it is will not be possible to live a long and healthy life. Whether you have difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep (or both), we have effective, drug-free solutions.

ExerciseEXERCISE THERAPY: Exercise is indispensable to the health of every organ. Next to the food we put into our mouth, there’s absolutely no better prescription for youthfulness than daily physical activity. The ability to exercise remains one of the most accurate predictors of longevity. The human body was not designed to be sedentary. Many diseases attributed to “normal aging” are simply a result of chronic inactivity. Anyone wanting to live a long and healthy life must incorporate regular exercise into their normal routine.

Engaging in regular exercise gives new life and strength to the body, and is one of the best things you can do to stimulate full-body circulation and build a lean, functional, and powerful physique. We will teach you how the right type and proper timing of exercise can simultaneously burn fat and build muscle, increase speed and endurance, and improve flexibility and balance in only 30 minutes a day, 3 days per week. Also, you will learn how to transform ordinary walking into a true calorie-burning workout. And we will teach you how a remarkable 7-minute workout can help maintain your fitness when you’re away from home.

IV TherapyINTRAVENOUS THERAPY: Intravenous (IV) therapy is a method of administering vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other therapeutic substances directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive tract where many nutrients are partially lost due to poor absorption or are altered by gut bacteria. It is a safe and highly effective method for quickly restoring key substances needed for energy production and optimal cellular function. IV therapy is a powerful tool for preventing and treating of a wide variety of chronic diseases.

Our advanced IV drips can provide a powerful “jump-start” to improving your health. IV therapy is the most effective way for your cells to receive nutrients. It drives these nutrients into the cells within mere seconds by delivering them directly into the body’s circulation. This provides better bioavailability compared to oral nutrients and avoids side effects like nausea, heartburn, and diarrhea that can accompany high oral doses. The resultant cellular repair and revitalization can be rapid and dramatic.

MedicationJUDICIOUS USE OF MEDICATION: It is important to be open-minded when diligently searching for solutions to overcome life-altering or life-threatening illnesses. Sometimes, “off-label” or alternative use of FDA-approved medications may be the best option for your condition. Life-saving treatments and breakthrough options are available. There are drugs being successfully used at doses much lower than the doses originally approved (“micro-doses”), or for purposes other than what they were originally indicated for. They are often ignored by mainstream medicine but can offer new hope for illnesses and symptoms that do not respond to traditional therapy.

We are committed to helping you live longer and in good health. As such, we consider all viable options in order to provide the best possible treatment to fight the effects of aging and reverse disease. In order to accomplish this, we consider all appropriate therapies, including small and precise doses of certain medications. By taking the best of conventional medicine and combining or integrating the best of alternative medicine, we can achieve far better outcomes for our patients with less risk of side effects.

ThermometerTHERMOTHERAPY: Proper body heat is fundamental to good health. Normal body temperature is 98.6° F with an acceptable range of 98.0° F to 99.1° F. When the body’s operating temperature is consistently below normal (<98.0° F), immune function decreases, metabolism falls, and enzyme activity drops. Because doctors focus more on high temperatures (fever), the negative consequences of low temperatures are often not grasped. This is not a trivial matter. The majority of people who suffer from poor health and chronic disease have low body temperatures. Raising body temperature to normal is essential in order to reclaim a vigorous state of health.

Thermotherapy using proximal far-infrared heat is one of the safest and most effective ways to elevate and maintain normal core body temperature. By doing so, we strengthen immune function, increase the metabolic rate, and stimulate enzyme activity. We also dilate capillaries and increase blood flow, strengthen cardiovascular function, lower blood sugar, burn calories and excess body fat, decrease blood pressure, promote tissue repair and regeneration, improve muscle strength, decrease joint pain and muscle spasms, relieve anxiety and depression, increase energy, and improve mental acuity.

MitochondriaMITOCHONDRIAL THERAPY: From the electric-powered devices we use in our homes to the gasoline-powered cars we drive, everything needs a source of energy (power) to function. The human body is no different. Instead of electricity or gasoline, the body is powered by an energy-releasing molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is made from the food we eat by the tiny capsule-shaped cellular structures called mitochondria. Mitochondria are often referred to as the “powerhouses” of the cells. They generate energy in the form of ATP that our cells need to do their jobs.

It is ATP that powers the highly energy-intensive cellular mechanisms needed to maintain our health and fight disease, such as tissue regeneration; preventing cell injury and death; DNA and cellular repair; the killing of bacteria, viruses, and cancer cells; and the removal of toxins, just to name a few. Without sufficient energy in the form ATP, our body’s ability to fully carry out its normal functions is undermined.

Recent discoveries in cellular biology have found that the root cause of disease (and even aging itself) may all boil down to decaying energy production. When mitochondria become dysfunctional (damaged) and/or diminish in number, the supply of ATP drops. Our cells then face an energy crisis and the body is unable to function at full capacity to maintain our health and fight disease. More and more medical researchers are finding that such defects in mitochondrial energy production and the resultant ATP deficiency may be an unrecognized healthcare crisis.

Having plentiful and functional mitochondria is essential to maintaining a normal physiologic state and equipping your body to handle nearly any problem as you age. Therefore, having an effective way to repair dysfunctional mitochondria, as well as stimulate the growth new mitochondria, would offer a powerful approach to promoting youthful vitality at the cellular level, preventing and fighting disease, and increasing longevity. This is a promising new area of medicine and it is available at our office. Using a combination of hyperoxygenation, targeted nutritional supplements, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF), and systemic photobiomodulation, we can increase the production of ATP by stimulating the repair of damaged mitochondrial as well as the growth of new mitochondria.
